We went to CHOP as they are called for a quick bite to eat before checking into our hotel upon arriving in Charleston. The building itself looks like an old fashioned diner, complete with a chromed exterior. Inside there is a surprisingly large amount of seating. We ordered a sausage and pepperoni pizza, which promptly arrived and was extremely good. It was easily one of the best pizzas I have ever had. What stops this from being a higher star review is the poor service at the establishment. We placed our order, received drinks, and then received our pizza about 10 minutes later. After that, we were never checked on. I wanted a refill that never came, and finally we just got up and paid the check at the counter rather then keep waiting to be checked on.

Have been wanting to try this spot FOREVER! Finally over spring break, my kiddo and I headed here. We got cheese bread as an appetizer (their garlic bread is topped with cheese) and it was very tasty. I ordered the house special pizza and my daughter got a meatball sub. The meatball sub came with sausage instead of meatballs so that was unexpected and it was tricky to eat so I wouldn't order that again (and neither would the kiddo) though we both agreed taste wise it was good. The pizza was so yummy!!!!! VERY good pizza!!! For me, I need not only good pizza, but tasty crust and this one definitely hit all the high marks. I was sad to learn they were out of baklava. The owners were very nice. The husband greeted us as he was walking out the door. His wife is who took care of us, and was very friendly. I only saw one other person, I'm assuming their son, working which meant service was a tad slow. Took us a while to get our check but really not a big deal. The son stayed in the kitchen and at one point, the wife was working back there too when someone came in. The gentleman stood at the front counter for a few minutes, then ended up leaving which was a shame cause he missed out! At first I hated that they lost business, but hopefully they aren't hurting for any business. When I was talking to the wife about the baklava, she was telling me she'd JUST made a big batch, and business was so good it was hard to keep up. Still, perhaps a bell on the front door would help them know when a customer walks in. Oh and in case anyone is wondering, I used a restaurant.com certificate here with zero problems.

Had their GF pizza and it was great! My son and I are celiac and we quizzed them by phone prior to ordering. They answered our questions well and we ordered for delivery. They brought plates and silverware without asking (thank goodness they were paying attention), and the delivery person was great. We look forward to eating there next time we are in the area and looking for a great GF pizza.

Shame on me for taking so long to write a review for the Charleston House of Pizza (aka CHOP)...I guess I have been distracted, thinking about how GOOD THE PIZZA IS!! Ahem. On to business. Located on Dorchester road across from Harbor Freight, the surrounding neighborhood leaves quite a bit to be desired, but just like many other Charleston establishments, this one is most certainly a diamond in the rough. The building itself resembles one of those railroad car dinners, with the cool stainless steel/aluminum a la Airstream garnishing the exterior. The inside is warm and inviting, and you will always be greeted with a hello and a smile from one of the family members who run CHOP. If they aren't hustling an order to a table or ringing someone up at the register, they're usually kind enough to chat with you for a bit, get to know you, and ask how your week is going. Every visit we look forward to the family style service we receive. On to the important stuff...the PIZZA. My god, the pizza. The crust is always perfect, the sauce is a sweeter, very flavorful marinara, and they never NEVER skimp on the cheese. Pretty much anything and everything you could ask for in a good pie. To go is just as good as eat in, and day or two old refrigerator leftovers rival most other Charleston pizza places fresh stuff. I'm not kidding. Salads are also amazing and fresh; Colleen and I generally split a large Greek salad so we will be less likely to overeat, but then we always eat too much anyway because it's just that tasty. We've only tried a Philly once, because we had to try it, and it was really really good too, but overshadowed by the pizza. Plus, if I ordered a Philly and a pizza every time I went there like I really want to, climbing stairs would just be too much of a chore, and I already have enough trouble finding jeans that fit. (Real men don't fit into skinny jeans; take note hipsters.) Bottom line, get over here and eat some pizza. You won't regret it.

Strengths: Cozy atmosphere. Plenty of parking. Very friendly staff. TV in the corner. Opportunities: Limited drink menu. Service while friendly can be slow. Summary: This is fantastic pizza. Want local pizza, this is your spot.

Service is great and the folks are very friendly. Casual and clean spot helps make for a comfortable meal. The pizza had great flavor and did not disappoint. I also had a Greek salad which was yummy (the homemade Greek dressing was awesome). Husband and son both had subs that they enjoyed. We would come back!

I will start by confessing that I didn't know there was a Greek style of pizza (it's sweeter sauce and I think they put magic in it), but it turns out that it's amazing! The location and interior leave a little to be desired, but the food at CHOP is downright delicious. I've tried their pizzas as well as their Philly cheese steaks and would order them again a million times over. The crust is perfect; not too thick, and the toppings are fresh and piled high UNDER the cheese. This makes a huge difference, believe it or not. Oh, back to location and interior - this is a really great place so please don't let these two bugaboos deter you. The family that owns it are incredibly sweet, personable, and I want to adopt them. It's pizza, not high tea with the queen, so stop in and enjoy a pie with them ;)

Coming from up north, particularly New England, I was so happy to come across the Charleston House of Pizza. House of Pizza's are a regular occurrence in New England and are usually owned by Greek families. I was skeptical that the Charleston House of Pizza was the same House of Pizza's from up north, but we figured we would check it out. To our delight, it was in fact the same kind of HoP we had grown accustomed to in NE. The owner's Christos and Chrissa greeted us immediately. As soon as they spoke, we knew we were in the right place. If you are unfamiliar with Greek pizza as opposed to Italian pizza, the main difference is the sauce. New york/Italian pizza has a spicier sauce, whereas Greek pizza has a sweeter more tomato-y sauce. We got a plain cheese and a vegetarian. WE asked that the vegetarian be cooked a little extra crispy to accommodate the extra water in the veggies. It was so good. They use all fresh veggies, no canned mushrooms here! The last thing to note is that the baklava that Chrissa hand makes from scratch is freakin' amazing. Since it's such a time consuming dessert to make I don't know that they have it every day, but if they do, buy some because it will be sold out if you wait. The location is the only downside of House of Pizza. It is pretty far down on Dorchester Rd and probably doesn't get quite the traffic of business that it should, but it is worth trekking to if you are a New Englander craving a slice of home.
